HOW WE RESTORE A FLOOR
Floor restoration is a job for the professionals. As always, preparation is the key to success. We'll replace any floorboards that may have been damaged by dry/wet rot or woodworm - or, in some cases, plumber or electricians. We partner with suppliers of reclaimed floorboards, giving a perfect match.
We'll even access the sub floor timber frame to check for woodworm and may replace timber joists. After inserting a damp proof membrane. we'll relay the floor, checking for gaps. If necessary, we'll even install sub floor ventilation to help preserve the wood.

PARQUET FLOOR RESTORATION
A Work of Art Beneath Your Feet
The aesthetic beauty and rich texture in a fully restored parquet floor is unparalleled.
The artwork beneath your feet will offer you great pleasure, with its contrast of warm and dark colours and three-dimensional, intricate patterns.
Parquet flooring, highly popular in wealthy households during the Edwardian period onwards, was introduced 17th Century France. The flooring was created by hand, of course, with wood cut by hand into geometric shapes to create attractive mosaic patterns. This effect was further enhanced using different coloured or textured woods.
Perhaps you've discovered a parquet floor in an old property and you've made the decision to bring it back to life. Or your much treasured floor is damaged or worn. Leave this intricate restoration work to the experts at London Floor Sanding. Find out more about how we sand and repair parquet floors, too.
HOW DO WE RESTORE A PARQUET FLOOR ?
It depends on its age and how much damage the floor has sustained but this is how it works:
DAMAGED, LOOSE OR MISSING BLOCKS
We know how to spot these by their hollow sound and we'll spot immediately which ones are no longer attached the the sub floor. These can be replaced with reclaimed wooden blocks of the same type and size but again, let us take care of this task. It's not as easy as it sounds and we know what we are looking for.
THE BITUMEN PROBLEM
Bitumen, the adhesive formerly used to fix down wooden blocks in older houses, is no longer used. We'll check for this and remove it - a tricky job but it all needs to go.
CORRECTING AN UNEVEN FLOOR
We may discover that the sub floor beneath the blocks is uneven. No problem, we'll use a safe acrylic compound to level the floor as much as we can.
LAYING THE FLOOR
Following the floor's pattern, we'll re-lay the blocks blending the old with the new. We'll take care of any height differences between the blocks and deal with gaps in the pattern.
VARNISHING AND FINISHING
At London Floor Repair, finishing touches are our speciality. We can advise you on just the right colour stains and finishes, taking care of everything with the utmost attention to detail.
