ARE YOU LOOKING FOR AN EXPERT IN PARQUET FLOORS?
If you have a parquet floor in your home or place of work, or you've been fortunate enough to discover a long forgotten parquet masterpiece under an old carpet, you'll appreciate just how beautiful wood can look.
WHAT IS PARQUET?
Instead of wooden slats or boards laid side by side, parquet (or the art of parquetry) uses smaller pieces of wood that have been created into stunning mosaic patterns. Often, timber which contrasts in colour and grain is used, with classic patterns including herringbone, basket weave, chevron or brick style. As you can imagine, creating these patterns is the job of a skilled craftsman. No wonder parquet floors are back in demand.
Parquet floors are not a new trend, by any means. They were highly popular throughout the early part of the twentieth century and periodically before then, too. Not everything about vintage parquet floors meets today's exacting quality standards, however: old floors were formerly fixed down with bitumen - in effect black tar, no longer allowed inside houses, so any residues of bitumen will need to come off as best as possible - a tough job for a DIYer.
Because the floor is solid all the way through, parquet floors can be sanded down and refinished to a high standard, giving them a whole new lease of life and restoring them to their former glory. If you're lucky enough to discover a parquet floor in an older property or if your parquet floor is past its best, give W4 London Floor Sanding a call.
HOW DO WE SAND A PARQUET FLOOR ?
With our usual high standards and attention to detail. Don't leave it to chance: here at W6 London Floor Sanding, we have the vital skills and experience you need to restore and enhance your floor.
If we assume that bitumen has not been used and that any repairs or parquet floor restoration work have been completed, we'll start by removing any old layers of finish on the old floor.
Taking the wooden floor pattern into consideration, we'll use a number of sanding rounds, completing the floor finishing process as carefully as possible with a smooth sander. Your parquet floor will be stripped, levelled and smoothed, ready for the next stages.
Working on your parquet floor will be our privilege and pleasure. Why not email us or give us a call to find out how we can bring it back to life?
